Gibbes Street Project

Built in 1910 in the historic South of Broad neighborhood in downtown Charleston, the home has beautiful original hardwood floors, intricate molding, and 10' ceilings. When our clients purchased the property, they wanted to refresh with the space with paint, lighting, and a renovation of their primary suite. The goals included letting more natural light in, gaining additional storage space, and re-working the layout of both the bedroom, bathroom, and closet.

Together with the architect, we came up with a new floor plan for the upstairs suite that would achieve these goals. Once the layout was decided upon we began to make the finish selections for the space. Since this is a historic home, we wanted to bring in elements that felt true to the homes architecture and character, like the beadboard that was found on the ceiling during the demolition phase, while giving the space a modern and young feel for it's new residents. The beautiful flooring from local Charleston-based Mirth studios was the first element selected, from there we mixed in warm tones with a walnut vanity, a rich blue hue on the walls, and a French wallpaper to tie it all together.

Estimated completion date: August 2023
